jonathan simmons
I work in Canadian higher education as a writing specialist, and I publish as an independent scholar.
My research is in the sociology of nonreligion and secular identity, with a particular interest in stigma, belonging, and belief change. Some of this work engages Indigenous contexts, where assumptions about spirituality and identity tend to go unexamined. I also work on academic writing and pedagogy, including what generative AI does to both.
This site collects selected writing, ongoing projects, and professional materials.
